What is Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy helps reduce pain and restore or improve movement and function. It helps people of all ages manage pain, facilitate recovery from illness or injury, return to work quickly and maintain their health and mobility.
Physiotherapy is a university degree-based healthcare profession which takes a holistic whole person approach to health and wellbeing. Physiotherapists use their knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat a range of conditions. In addition they assess and improve general movement and body alignment.
Treatment is tailored to your condition and may involve a combination of:
manual ‘hands on’ treatment techniques such as manipulation, mobilisation of joints and tissues, stretching and soft tissue massage
restoring normal movement patterns and posture together with correctional taping
learning specific exercises to do between appointments
advice on preventing future problems
